As the country prepares for the clocks to spring forward this weekend, people can also look ahead to some warmer weather.

Forecasters are predicting that temperatures will reach highs of 16C over the coming days with the weather turning milder.

While Friday saw some early showers, it will be mostly dry tonight with clear spells.

According to Met Éireann, cloud will build from the West through the night, with patchy rain and drizzle moving into western and south-western parts by morning.

Saturday will start as a mixed bag, with "some bright or sunny spells in the east at first". Elsewhere, it will cloudy "with outbreaks of light rain and drizzle", particularly in the South-West and West in the morning.

However, the rain and drizzle will turn lighter and patchier over the course of the day, with temperatures reaching highs of 11C to 15C.

"A clearance to drier and brighter conditions will develop in the North-West in the early afternoon, extending southeastwards through the rest of the day," said Met Éireann.

Saturday night will be "largely dry with a mix of cloud and clear spells", with temperatures of 5C to 8C expected. By Sunday, the weather will turn "largely dry with a mix of cloud and sunny spells, with just a few light showers".

Sunday will see the warmest of the weather over the weekend, with temperatures reaching highs of 12C to 16C. It's a far cry from the warmest March on record, which was 23.6C in Dublin in 1965.

It will turn cloudy on Sunday night and will be mostly dry, bar a few light showers. The temperature will fall to lows of 5C to 9C.

Monday will see more dry weather and temperatures of up to 15C, with "a mix of cloud and sunny spells with just isolated light showers".

The indications for the rest of the working week are that "it will be mostly dry and settled as high pressure continues to dominate our weather".
