A boy who lost his front teeth after a fall off a slide in a creche has settled a High Court action for €56,000.

Patrick Parry was aged two when he fell heavily on the ground from the slide, the High Court heard.

His counsel, Patrick O’Connell, told the court the slide was moved by a member of staff in the creche and the boy fell off.

He said the boy later had to have his two front baby teeth removed under general anaesthetic and he made a very good recovery.

Counsel said liability was admitted in the case which was before the court for assessment of damages only.

Patrick, now aged 14, of Platin near Drogheda, had through his mother Siobhán McCloskey sued Melanie Brannigan trading as Scribbles and Giggles Pre School, a creche and pre-school facility at Matthew's Lane, Drogheda, as a result of the accident on November 13, 2012.

It was claimed there was a failure to provide adequate supervision of the child and that the child had been caused to lose balance and fall heavily.

It was further claimed there was a failure to have any or any reasonable regard for the child’s safety, health, and welfare while in the creche.

Approving the settlement as fair and reasonable, Mr Justice Paul Coffey wished the boy all the best for the future.
