Cork's multi-award-winning seafood restaurant Goldie played host to an exclusive VIP dining event to mark the unveiling of the Examiner Eats Club.
Some 40 lucky Irish Examiner subscribers gathered in the critically acclaimed restaurant on Cork's Oliver Plunkett Street for a delicious multi-course meal served up by chef and co-proprietor Aishling Moore, the Irish Examiner's brand new food columnist, who was recently crowned Ireland's best chef.
The Irish Examiner's food writing team was also in attendance at the meal. During a pre-dinner drinks reception, food editor Jillian Bolger introduced Moore and the team, including wine writer Leslie Williams and this writer, to the dining audience before Moore began serving up a sumptuous seafood feast with wine pairings also available.

With sustainability at the core of Goldie’s marine offering, Moore, who sources her fish and shellfish only from local fishing boats and producers, dished up a magnificent feast, with snacks including her now iconic langoustine cocktail potato crisps, Taiwanese fish nuggets.
That was followed by small plates of cured turbot with beetroot ponzu and West Cork wasabi, and monkfish cheek sope before attentions turned to the main courses of brill, and hake.

To round off the sumptuous feast, there were desserts including a stunning Toonsbridge ricotta cheesecake, with strawberry and elderflower.
Guests were also treated to a packed goody bag including a specially-commissioned Irish Examiner x Badly Drawn Books notebook and pen, along with copies of the ieFood Magazine and the Irish Examiner’s Weekend magazine, which Moore’s debut column.

Moore is also the author of recently launched Whole Catch, published by Blasta Books, which showcases her sustainable gill-to-tail fish cooking recipes and ethos.
And, even though her cooking often features less familiar fish and uses the entire fish with zero waste, she intends to use her new Irish Examiner column as a gentle and more easily negotiated introduction to the world of seafood cooking for novice fish folk.

Also in attendance on the night from the Irish Examiner were features editor Vickie Maye, head of marketing Lisa Coughlan, and head of subscriptions Clare Hough.
The Examiner Eats Club is a new exclusive series of dining events solely open to Irish Examiner subscribers who are offered the opportunity to purchase tickets on a first come, first served basis for the chance to dine in some of Ireland’s finest restaurants, while getting all the inside scoop from the Irish Examiner food writing team, before heading home with some very special gifts.
