Actors Adam Scott and Rob Lowe on why it's cheaper to film in Ireland than US

Adam Scott, the star of Severance, recently filmed in West Cork.

American actors Adam Scott and Rob Lowe have spoken out about the costs involved in filming in LA compared to other countries, including Ireland.

Scott, who has spent the last couple of months in Cork shooting a new movie, joined his former Parks and Rec co-star Rob Lowe on his podcast Literally! and spoke about the high costs of production in the US, particularly in LA.

The pair described Ireland as a “beautiful” place and discussed how Ireland and other countries offer substantial incentives, such as a 40% tax credit, making it more financially viable to film internationally.

Lowe discussed with Scott the logistics and financial considerations of filming his American game show The Floor in Dublin.

“It’s cheaper to bring one hundred American people to Ireland than to walk across the lot at Fox, passed the soundstages, and do it there,” Lowe said.

Scott said it is “just too expensive” to shoot in LA, with Lowe chiming in on the lack of tax credits.

“There are no tax credits. So, like all those other places are offering 40%. And then on top of that, there's other stuff that they do, and then it's not even talking about the union stuff, that's just tax, economics of it all,” he said.

“It’s criminal what California and LA have let happen. Everybody should be fired.”
