The Cork Podcast Festival finishes up this weekend after a great collection of shows over the past month.

Nicola Tallant’s Crime World rounds things up on Sunday at the Opera House but the previous day, local legends — and former Red FM presenters — Heffernan and O’Mahony bring their show to the Opera House stage.

They usually tackle parenting challenges and relationship dynamics as well as fame, mental health, and societal expectations. Expect a stimulating live show.

Standup: Killian Sundermann 

Sea Church, Ballycotton, Friday, March 28 

One third of the Hot Young Guys podcast and author of Countryfail: Some C***'S Guide To The Countryside, Killian Sundermann is also an acclaimed standup comedian and brings his latest show, This Boy is Cracking Up, to East Cork on Friday. 

He’s sold out dates around the country over the past six weeks or so — Sundermann is also at De Barra’s in Clonakilty on Saturday, March 29.

Cinema: Picnic at Hanging Rock

Triskel, Cork, Sunday, March 30-Wednesday, April 2

A classic of Australian cinema, Picnic at Hanging Rock celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2025 and the Triskel is celebrating Peter Weir's adaptation of Joan Lindsay’s novel with screenings this week of the director's cut of the movie. 

The Triskel says the film has become a landmark for its dreamlike exploration of the intensely romantic, yet profoundly unsettling, experience of girlhood and burgeoning sexuality.

Punks Listen Zine is the latest benefit publication from Dublin DIY punk group Hope Collective, with a collection of personal stories about favourite records from musicians, writers, actors, and music fans. 

Among the more than 100 contributors are Will Sergeant, Bill Drummond, Esme Young, and Holly Johnson. 

Speakers on the night include: Claudia Hernadez (33RPM Records), Cormac Donovan O’Neill (Pebbledash), Jim O’Mahony (Comet Records), and Stevie G.

A spin-off of sorts from the Ray Donovan series, this new show was penned by Irish writer Ronan Bennett (Top Boy). 

There’s also an Irish presence in the cast through Pierce Brosnan, who joins an impressive ensemble that also includes Tom Hardy and Paddy Considine. Guy Ritchie directs a few episodes.
