Planning has been sought for a new student accommodation development in Cork.

Denis O'Brien Developments (Cork) Limited applied to the city council to build a new student development on Model Farm Road, which would comprise 170 beds in total.

The proposed development includes a student housing scheme comprising 21 houses and 163 beds, as well as one additional student house with seven bedrooms.

Permission is also sought for the change of use of the vacant two-storey Bishopstown House from a former medical and health service to a residential student house.

The redeveloped house will have seven bedrooms, bringing the total capacity of the housing scheme to 170 beds.

The proposed development would also include 85 cycle spaces and five car parking spaces, a bin store and all site development, landscaping, boundary treatment, lighting, signage, and drainage works.

The council is due to decide on the case by May 13th, 2025.

Meanwhile, a Cork secondary school could see its building upgraded under new plans submitted to Cork City Council.

Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh on Curraheen Road has sought permission to demolish an existing annex consisting of a library and resource room to pave the way for the construction of a new two-storey, three-classroom extension including a central activities space, associated teaching, administration and toilet facilities.

Site works will include new play areas, refuse store, the reconfiguration and increase of surface parking area for four cars and all associated ancillary site work.
