Desire Lines: Embrace brighter days with these pops of colour

Desire Lines: Buying Irish will never be out of style

St Patrick’s Day might be behind us, but wearing Irish will never be out of style. Embrace brighter (but still chilly) days with this buttercup polo neck from IrelandsEye’s latest collection, €281.

We’re a bit smitten with Claire Shorman’s striking greeting cards. The Irish illustrator puts fun, humour and Irish culture front and centre in her colourful cards which she designs and prints on premium, sustainable paper in her Greystones studio. While picking up a Mother’s Day card be sure to browse her site for other brilliant designs for every occasion. Best of all, they’re only €4 each, with deals on packs of multiple cards, making them better value than many mass-produced shop cards.

This weekend is your last chance to see The Knot on the Fly exhibition at The Mall Arts Centre in Youghal.
A collaborative project between former workers of Youghal Carpets textile factory, Greywood Arts and artist Katie Nolan, the exhibition uses video, installations, 3D prints, letterpress, printmaking and sculpture to consider the nature of modern technology and the diminishing role of touch and manual skill in contemporary life. Open from 10:30am to 4:30pm this Saturday and Sunday.

We really like the look of Clo Chocolates’ new Easter collection, which includes chocolate lambs, bunnies — and dinosaurs — because why not? Available for nationwide delivery and from Le Fournil Bakery in Sligo, Kate’s Kitchen, Shells, Fallon & Byrne, Avoca, and Ardkeen.

As Cork Opera House marks its 170th anniversary, the venue hosts a Black-Tie Gala Concert tonight with a lineup of some of Ireland’s finest artists. Expect Killian Donnelly and Claire O’Leary of West End fame, Cork Soprano Majella Cullagh, singers Rachel Croash, Emma Nash, Laoise Leahy, Rory Dunne and Precious Abimbola, alongside a host of well-known actors and performers including Michael Grennell and Dylan Howe.
Meanwhile, a new historical project will see two Drop-Off Weekends on Sunday May 11 and Sunday May 25 (10am to 1pm on both days), where Cork’s public are invited to bring memorabilia, including programmes, posters, photographs, letters, and any other historical items related to the Opera House, and share their stories and memories of times they have spent and shows they have seen or participated in at the venue.
