A NEW online portal designed to slash the time it takes to buy or sell a home in Ireland will allow house buyers to track the sales process in real time.

MyConveyance.ie, which allows clients around-the-clock access to their files, aims to reduce by 50% the amount of time spent on admin in the house-buying process.

Currently conveyancing - the legal process of transferring ownership of a property from one person to another - is largely paper-based and time-consuming, but online portals should streamline the process.

MyConveyance.ie promises greater transparency, with clients kept abreast of every stage of the property transaction process via automatic alerts sent out by text or email as each stage is completed.

Cork-based solicitors O’Donoghue and Associates are behind the new portal, designed with the help of RedBrick Solutions, specialists in conveyancing case management systems.

“We have developed a product that utilizes cutting edge technology to automate and speed up the standard conveyancing transaction,” said Kevin O’Donoghue.

“The result is a secure, online portal, accessible to clients, keeping them informed at every stage of their property transaction, giving them peace of mind and control over their investment,” he added.

The portal will require biometric identification, ID verification checks and Anti Money Laundering checks before clients can proceed to access their files. Auctioneers and other stakeholders can be given limited access.

The portal's services are available to property buyers, sellers, estate agents, brokers and solicitors.

The shift to online is expected to significantly reduce transaction times and costs, while increasing security and transparency. The government acknowledged the importance of eConveyancing in its Construction 2020 Strategy, highlighting it as a key step to improve the property market's efficiency.
