Watch: UCC students tell us what they plan on giving up for Lent

One student said they planned on fasting every Friday

Social media, prayer and fasting were all considerations by a group of students in Cork who have discussed what they are giving up, or in some cases taking up, for Lent.

Bishop Fintan Gavin gave mass on Ash Wednesday in front of a full Honan Chapel in UCC, and afterwards, students spoke to the Irish Examiner about their plans for the 40-day period.

One student said they planned to call their grandparents more, while another said they were taking up the "Exodus challenge". The "Catholic challenge" involves giving up things like social media while also choosing to take cold showers for the time period.

Another student said they planned on fasting every Friday, while another added that they wanted to pray more and focus on studying scripture.
