RTÉ is to spend just under €250,000 in providing replacement water coolers for its Dublin site and regional offices over the next five years.

The broadcaster has tendered for a replacement contract for its existing water cooler supplier for €249,000 over the next five years.

The contract will see 75 replacement coolers delivered to the broadcaster’s Montrose headquarters, with the remaining 15 units distributed to its eight regional offices across the country.

Each cooler will be serviced on a quarterly basis under the terms of the contract, with each unit price incorporating the cost of the bottled water containers and 100% compostable disposable cups used.

The new contract will also call for bidders to supply pricing for the delivery of 725 cases of 330ml glass bottles of still and sparkling water per year for the provision of hospitality.

Asked whether or not the water cooler expenditure is considered urgent by RTÉ management, a spokesperson for the broadcaster said that “while this is not an urgent requirement, RTÉ considers it necessary to provide drinking water to staff working on and visitors to its sites and offices”.

The spokesperson noted that the new contract is a “reduction” compared to the previous contract, and that should a new supplier be appointed the incumbent supplier will be required to take back its own dispensers.

"RTÉ continues to manage its costs carefully,” the spokesperson said.
