Some of what we're loving this weekend.

The denim jacket

It’s the first day of March and we are more than ready to pack away our winter wardrobe and embrace denim jacket season.

Top of our wishlist? The new Aggie Denim Jacket, €115, from Sinead Keary The Label.

Crafted from dark wash denim in a rich, deep hue, its removable sleeves, transform the jacket into a vest for added bang for your buck.

Style it with a white tee and black leather pants for your next brunch date, or brave the double denim trend and pair it with the brand’s Aggie Denim Skirt, €85.

The cookery school

Howth cookery school.

Already a special setting for a cookery lesson, Howth Castle Cookery School, in the historic North Dublin castle, has unveiled a brand new kitchen.

Teaming up with Gaggenau, the luxury German appliance brand, students can now cook with state-of-the-art technology in a truly unique setting.

Having booked classes here ourselves, we can confirm quality tutoring and a really fun experience.

The new kitchen sits beneath a 30-foot-high cupola, dating back to 1750, and classes are run by resident chefs Sarah Hughes and John Carty.

Hands-on cooking classes start at €95, with their Teen & Tween Classes especially popular.

The inaugural Drogheda Comedy Festival was such a hit last year that it’s back for year two with an even bigger line-up.

Taking place from March 7-9, headline acts include Jason Byrne, Reginald D Hunter, Justine Stafford, Emma Doran plus Julie Jay and Colm O’Regan from this parish.

The pancake shaker

From The Strawberry Field’s iconic Dutch pancakes to Sarah Butler’s please-everyone recipe, there’s plenty of pancake inspiration in this edition of Weekend – with even more on our ieFood recipe hub, see exa.mn/pancake.

But, if you don’t fancy measuring out flour and cracking eggs this Pancake Tuesday (no judgement here), you can still keep everyone happy with Odlums’ range of Pancake Shakers.

New flavours this year include blueberry and caramelised biscuit, and all you have to do is add milk. €4.39 each.

The phone-free zone

O'Sho, Cork.
O'Sho, Cork.

Are you bothered by how everyone seems to be glued to their phones in public spaces these days?

Craving some phone-free zones so you can actually talk to strangers, or even talk to your own friends without someone phubbing you? (That’s when someone stops paying attention to you in favour of engaging with their phone FYI).

We absolutely love this phone free trial O’Sho on Cork’s Barrack Street is testing out this Pancake Tuesday.

From 6pm - 10pm, enjoy live music, play chess, draw, paint, knit, have a tarot reading or just chat. A pancake and drink will be included in the €10 ticket price.

The sample sale

One of our favourite haunts in Dublin, Drury Street’s Irish Design Shop has announced their annual sample sale will take place next Saturday, March 8 at Flux Studios on Chatham Row from 12pm to 5pm.

This year, the team have invited five of their favourite Irish brands to join them in this larger space, so you’ll find items from August Night, Jennifer Slattery, Names Jewellery, Ros Duke and Tidings too.

Expect reductions on items that were produced as samples, or on pieces that have slight flaws.
