In bloom: Nine new ways to wear floral prints this season

Some of Annmarie O'Connor's floral faves.
Is it premature to talk about florals? If the weather is any indicator, then absolutely. March has yet to leave its imprint on our collective psyche, let alone our wardrobes. More reason to think positive thoughts–garden parties, fragrant bouquets, and the imminent arrival of spring’s signature print. Let the daydreaming begin.
Best start with our social calendars. As the mercury rises in tandem with RSVPs, so does that craving for ‘the’ dress. Look no further than Stine Goya’s crepe and satin ‘Pencil Garden’ beauty—full-length and flowing with a statement bow strap or the painterly yet playful ‘Loves Me, Loves Me Not’ mini-length shirtdress.
Although less florid, H&M’s budget-worthy options come into their own for brunches and casual meetups. Wear any with ballet flats for comfy chic.
Scandi favourite Essentiel Antwerp leans into buds and blossoms of all iterations this season, most notably its wide leg ‘Harlequin’ trousers in pretty pastels, while Spanish label Desigual opts for a singular iris on high-low separates like a pillar-box red texture skirt. Embrace the maximalist aesthetic or pair with black sandals and a white tank top for easy elegance. Not one for big displays? Parfois keeps things quiet with a discrete monochrome daisy motif across neck scarves and bags.
If, like me, however, you’re partial to a low-key piece with high impact, try Irish accessory designer Melissa Curry’s ‘Fleurs’ collar. Handmade with black matte floral shapes built into two tiers, this glorious piece of style alchemy will instantly transform any look. Why not look bloomin’ lovely?
