Cork City's new CEO Valerie O'Sullivan addressed business leaders on Wednesday saying the council would develop a Cork Futures Group modelled on the Dublin City Taskforce which joins organisations together to make the city safer and more welcoming.
Speaking at a Cork Business Association (CBA) event, Ms O'Sullivan outlined her vision and priorities for the coming year. She was joined by her senior management team with the group taking part in a Q&A session with CBA members.
She said the three guiding principles that will shape the council’s approach in the years ahead would be: Keep it Simple, Decide, Deliver.
“We need to make things happen quicker for Cork,” she said.
Key initiatives she referred to included a focus on the city centre, new approaches to the ‘Living Over the Shop’ challenge and the introduction of a Community Warden service in conjunction with An Garda Siochána and the CBA.
"You will see proposals brought forward for projects that we are already working on, such as a new cultural quarter in the city centre, the piloting of new approaches to the living over the shop challenges. You will see an uplift in the presentation of the city centre and hear about the Cork Futures Group.
"Similar but not the same as the Dublin task force whose job it is to define a deliverable set of actions for all of us within a short time frame," Ms O'Sullivan said.
