In raw numbers, that’s a 250 per cent spike in popularity, thanks to its analysis of 30,000 online posts mentioning the trend.
From The Row’s brown suede ‘Margaux’ bag dubbed ‘the new Birkin to a 35 per cent increase in Prada’s influence around the timely release of its viral málas, this suede (brown or otherwise) is going nowhere.
Here’s the thing. Many of us are emerging from January broke and wet. Suede, to be frank, can be pricey and requires regular TLC to keep in good nick. So, how can we get our kicks while also being, well, practical?
Consider these tips. Before investing in anything suede, be prepared to look after it. Buy a suede protector and brush to prevent water damage and to keep the nap clean.
Where possible, avoid wet days (a big ask, admittedly) and aim for darker shades that don’t easily betray wear and tear.
On a budget? Look to second-hand and vintage stores for sustainable (and original) fare. Cork’s Miss Daisy Blue is my favourite haunt.
