Cork City Council has given the green light for the addition of an upstairs food court at Paul Street Shopping Centre.
Previously occupied by the Other Realms gaming store, the space has been vacant since March 2023.
Developers Holren Properties Ahall Limited sought permission from the council for a change of use of the shopping centre’s existing first-floor retail area to a food court which would include four new food kiosks and kitchen areas.
The development will also feature one movable food kiosk, staff toilets, dining areas, and the removal of an existing glazed balcony wall which will be replaced by a partition and toughened glass on top.
The plans also included the installation of an exterior horizontal extraction system over Paul’s lane, which is to be connected to an existing vertical extraction unit between the food court area and the existing car park.
Meanwhile, An Bord Pleanála have approved plans for almost 100 new homes in Bandon.
Developers Castle Rock Homes (Midleton) Ltd were initially refused planning by Cork County Council, who, in its decision, said the development of 95 new homes at Knockbrogan, Bandon lacked adequate cyclist and pedestrian access and would constitute a traffic hazard.
The proposed development, located on 3.53 hectares in total, includes 95 homes in total, comprising one four-bed detached dwelling, 14 four-bed semi-detached homes, 36 three-bed semi-detached homes, 18 three-bed end-of-terrace dwellings and 26 two-bed mid-terraces houses. It will also include 164 car parking spaces.
However, following an appeal by the developers, An Bord Pleanála ruled in favour of the plans with revised conditions.
