Cork engineering and robotics firm Reliance has appointed former tánaiste and minister Simon Coveney as a non-executive director.
The fourth-generation family business now run by CEO Peter Creighton employs 53 people with a footprint across Cork, Dublin, Limerick, and Antrim.
Mr Coveney held the role of minister for enterprise, trade and employment in the last government, but announced last year he would not run for reelection for his seat in Cork South-Central, bringing an end to a political career lasting almost 30 years.
He brings his experience to his new role at Reliance to contribute to the company’s ongoing growth.
Peter Creighton said Mr Coveney’s extensive experience and leadership will be invaluable.

“Simon’s appointment is a testament to our commitment to driving forward-thinking strategies and reinforcing our position as industry leaders,” he said.
Mr Coveney said: “I’m honoured to join Reliance as a non-executive director during such a milestone year
"I’m looking forward to working with the board and entire team and contributing my experience to help steer the company towards even greater achievements ahead.
“Throughout my political career, I have always emphasised the vital role family enterprises play in the economy.
“Joining one with a 100-year legacy is an opportunity I value greatly,” he said.
Reliance was founded in 1925 and began operating from the back of a Ford Model T truck. Since then, the company has evolved significantly and today supplies engineering components, robotics, and sustainable automation systems.
The firm works with customers in the industrial, bio-pharma, renewables, and agriculture sectors. The business has seen double-digit growth in each of the last five years.
It has been shortlisted for a Cork Chamber Company of the Year award which take place next week.
