A former Cork City pub is set to become new residential accommodation after getting the green light from the council.
Developers IRE Communications sought permission to convert the former Roisin Dubh bar on the corner of Wolfe Tone Street and Cattle Market Avenue in Shandon to eight new apartments.
The development will consist of a change of use of the ground floor pub area into a new two-bed apartment, a change of the first floor into a second two-bed apartment and the conversion of the attic into a one-bed apartment.
It will also see the existing extensions demolished and replaced with two more additional extensions.
Cork City Council approved the plans more than two years after initially refusing a similar development at the Roisin Dubh. In 2022, the council ruled that the development would "seriously injure the visual amenity" of the area and expressed concerns that it may "impact negatively" on adjoining neighbours.
The developers tried again in 2023 but were once again refused before reapplying in 2024 with slight changes to initial plans, which have now been approved.
Meanwhile, Castleview AFC is set to see its grounds upgraded after receiving planning approval from Cork City Council.
The football club sought permission for the redevelopment of two existing soccer playing fields, replacing them with an all-weather playing surface.
It will also include the replacement of existing four floodlights to the first pitch with LED floodlighting, as well as the installation of six new 15m high LED floodlights to the second pitch.
Castleview AFC will also construct a car parking area to the east and south east of the second pitch, as well as a new spectator stand to the south of the pitch.
In addition, the soccer club will install high fencing around both pitches, realign the road entrance to the second pitch and install 12 six-metre high LED lights to the walkway and carpark area.
