The coffee franchise will also see its floor area increase marginally by 5 sq m, with alterations to the units landscaping, outdoor seating area and associated site works also included in the approved development.

Popular café franchise Costa Coffee will see its site in Little Island significantly upgraded after being granted planning permission from Cork County Council.

The unit, located at Eastgate Retail Park, has been given planning for a new drive-thru lane spanning 3.5 metres in width, which will also include a canopy and service hatch.

Developers MBCC Foods (Ireland) Limited also received planning for new signing which will include menu boards and advertisement signs for customers using the new drive-thru.

The proposed development will also see alterations to all elevations of the Costa Coffee unit, including the provision of new signage on all extensions.

The company will also remove six existing car parking spaces, which will be replaced by two new pedestrian crossings.

Meanwhile, permission has been granted for the construction of a new creche in North Cork.

Developers Hallmark Building Services Ltd received planning permission from Cork County Council to build a new creche facility in Mallow, which will serve the adjacent permitted residential development.

The residential plans, which were proposed by the same developers, were approved by the council in 2016. That development will see the removal of a disused farm building and the construction of 61 new homes and associated works including vehicular access, footpaths, landscaping and amenity areas.
